<授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標>
This course will utilize an integrated skills approach in order to improve the students' English language and intercultural interaction abilities. This method will include analyzing materials for content and meaning utilizing the theories presented in Intercultural Interaction, orally reporting on the content discovered in the materials and discussing and explaining the points of view derived from the themes and theories in the materials, and writing short reports and papers explaining the materials covered and expressing interpretations of said materials.

By the end of the course students must be able to discuss the content of input (listenings/readings) and offer their interpretation for discussion (students must also be able to give a short oral presentation); students must be able to write a well-structured short paper.

<授業計画及び準備学習>
The goal of this class is to improve your ability in English across the four skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and to further develop the global hodological maps that were matrixed in Intercultural Interaction. To do this your participation in the class is essential. This means that you must be an active member of the class. You must concentrate fully on all the tasks in class. As you are learners of English you are expected to make mistakes, so do not worry about making mistakes. You should focus on practicing your English. If you do this, your English will improve.
This class will focus on developing the variety of skills needed to enable the student to become an autonomous and confident reader of English language material.

Weeks 1 through 4 introducing relevant theories for engaging cultural texts.
Weeks 5 through 10 analysis and discussion of written texts.
Weeks 11 and 12 analysis and discussion of non-written texts.
Weeks 13 through 15 analysis and discussion of ideologies.




<成績評価方法及び水準>
Grades will be determined through the quality of the students course work and their participation.

No textbook is required for this course.

Shinjuku: Wednesday & Thursday lunch time and by appointment.
