This course will focus on improving your presentation skills in English in order to present your research at conferences and to journals. We will move quickly each week through discussions and presentations. Be prepared to interact and discuss issues and topics.

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

Online Community 10%
This semester you will need to contribute ten entries to the website http://www.liveinenglish.com
Once you have joined with a username, you need to make ten long blog postings and ten shorter comments on somebody else’s blog posting. I will be checking these regularly. These posts should be connected to research.

Presentations 30%
There are two presentations in this course. The first presentation gives you practice in introducing a technical topic and the second presentation will be based on your own research.

Research Report 30%
You will prepare an abstract and a research report introducing and explaining your current research. We will spend class time working on your research report. This short report may be used as the basis for a published article or longer report in the Guided Research class in the second semester.

Articles (2x10%) 20%
You will select an English research article related to your research twice this semester. You will summarize the article for your group and lead a discussion about the article. To do this you will need to prepare an A4 handout for your group members with the article on one side and your summary of and reaction to the article and some discussion questions (see the example sheet) on the other side.

Participation 10%
This is a workshop style class, so your attendance and active participation in all class discussions and tasks is necessary.
