＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve critical thinking and communication skills through the analysis and discussion of cultural interaction.

＜授業計画及び準備学習＞

In this seminar course, students will discuss and critically analyse a variety of cultural constructions through the application of principles from the fields of Critical Discourse Analysis, Cultural Studies, and Anthropology. The class will discuss such cultural constructions as religion, social structure, economic practice, the arts, language, and history. A large part of the class will be spent analysing example situations where intercultural interaction has become strained. Analysis of these "critical incidents" as well as discussion and comparison of cultural constructions will help broaden students' "total world view" thus helping them in intercultural interaction in real world situations.

Grades will be based on participation, class work and a variety of written and oral assignments.
