<授業のねらい>
Communicative English A is a basic English language class designed to improve students' abilities across the four skills of speaking. listening, reading, and writing. The main focus of this course is for students to practice and improve their listening and conversation skills. Students will speak in controlled and guided activities with their classmates, which is a great way to make friends, so it should be fun! Communicative-style learning will be a feature of the classes, so students will be required to speak together in pairs and small groups.

<具体的な到達目標>
By the end of the course, students should be able to have short conversations in English on a range of everyday topics. Students will be able to communicate in English to perform simple functions, such as introducing themselves, describing people, giving directions. They should also be able to use English to express their feelings, ideas and opinions.

<授業計画及び準備学習>
1. Course outline and expectations. Students' English learning profiles.
Introductions: Getting to know your teacher and classmates.
2. Meeting people: Exchanging personal information politely.
3. Family and friends.
4. Talking about likes and dislikes.
5. Hobbies and interests.
6. Work, occupations, and part-time jobs.
7. Making appointments.
8. Lifestyles: Daily/weekly routines.
9. Reading and speaking: A Good Life. Responding to information.
10. Your life story so far... Life events.
11. Talking about how people met. Responding to good and bad news.
12. Reading and speaking: The Father of Soul Music. Short questions and answers.
13. Getting around. Asking about what people are doing. Offering and asking for help.
14. Commuting in Tokyo. Talking about travelling to school or work.
15. End of term Test.
16. Review of last term's class topics.
17. Memories of the summer.
18. Favorite movies and actors/actresses.
19. What a good story! Talking about something exciting that happened.
20. Directions and locations. How to ask for and give directions.
21. Reading and speaking: The Gardener. Asking about a strange fear.
22. Seeing the world. Talking about plans.
23. The Global Yacht Race. Talking about travelling to a different country.
24. What's she like? Describing people's appearance and personality.
25. Explaining who things are for. Greeting a visitor.
26. Out and about. Asking what people want to eat.
27. Shopping. Buying clothes. Talking about different kinds of stores.
28. What's on TV? Talking about famous Japanese TV personalities.
29. All about money. Inviting someone out. What will the future be like?
30. Workshop-style lesson and review of the course.

Class attendance and participation 50%
Homework assignments 10%
End of term Test 40%
