＜授業のねらい＞

Students will develop abilities to utilize a critical thinking approach to the analysis of texts written in English. Attention will be given to formulating arguments for discussion and debate based on the content of the reading materials.

None. However, students should be prepared to communicate in English. The course will be conducted in English.

Students will be able to utilize a critical thinking approach to analyze texts written in English. They can formulate arguments for discussion and debate based on the content of the reading materials.

＜授業計画及び準備学習＞

This class will focus on developing the variety of skills needed to enable the student to become an autonomous and confident reader of English language material.
Skills that will be given consideration are:
Weeks 1 through 4 reading for main ideas; reading for detailed information.
Weeks 5 through 9 inferring meaning from context; active reading; understanding and following English phrasing.
Weeks 10 through 14 internalization of read material.
Weeks 15 assessment.
There will be short in class readings and readings assigned for homework. The students will be required to demonstrate their understanding of texts in both oral and written form.
Students will have to read and write for homework. Instructors will provide written and oral feedback.

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

Homework（20%), course work（20%), projects/tests（30%) and participation（30%)
Students must achieve 60％　or above to earn the credit.
