△Cultural Systems[3E08]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

In this course students will be introduced to cultural systems from a wide variety of regions. The aim is that the students will not only acquire knowledge about various regions, peoples, and cultures but that they will also develop the skills necessary to analyze and deconstruct the mechanisms that both generate and control these cultural constructions. In order to achieve this aim, pertinent concepts from the field of cultural anthropology and discourse analysis will be introduced, discussed, and applied to cultural texts.

＜授業計画及び準備学習＞

The course will begin by introducing fundamental concepts necessary in the study of cultural systems. These will then be applied to a variety of cultural constructions, to be determined by both the instructor and the students. Students will be expected to prepare by reading or watching assigned materials before class and to participate fully in discussion. There will be a final project at the end of the term.

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

Students will be evaluated based on their attendance/attitude/participation, class assignments, and a major project.

There is no textbook for this class. Materials will be provided by the instructor.
