△Cultural Systems[3B06]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

In this course students will be introduced to cultural systems from a wide variety of regions. The aim is that the students will not only acquire knowledge about various regions, peoples, and cultures but that they will also develop the skills necessary to analyze and deconstruct the mechanisms that both generate and control these cultural constructions. In order to achieve this aim, pertinent concepts from the field of Critical Theory will be introduced, discussed, and applied to cultural texts.

＜授業計画及び準備学習＞

The course will begin, weeks 1 through 5, by introducing fundamental concepts from the fields of Critical Theory and Cultural Theory.
These will then be applied in weeks 6 through 13 to cultural constructions, to be determined by both the instructor and the students, to reveal and better understand the operations of the systems.
Weeks 14 and 15 will provide the students the opportunity to demostrate their abilities in both oral and written form.
The course will be run as a seminar.

Students will be evaluated on their homework, course work, and projects.

Shinjuku: Wednesday & Thursday lunch time and by appointment.
