△Reading for Discussion[3B06]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

Utilizing the skills learned in Critical Reading, the students will engage various mediums: written and non-written materials (movies, art, advertising, music, fashion, technology, political movements). The aim is to have the students develop their abilities to decipher and comment, from a critical point of view, on a wide range of topics.

＜授業計画及び準備学習＞

This is a seminar course where students will engage cultural texts by applying the theories they have been learning in other ECSP courses.The students will be required to demonstrate their understanding of texts in both oral and written form.
Skills that will be given consideration are:
Weeks 1 through 4 reading for main ideas; reading for detailed information. Asking questions and discussing the information.
Weeks 5 through 9 inferring meaning from context; active reading; understanding and following English phrasing. Through active reading and discussions enhance the critical thinkings skills.
Weeks 10 through 14 internalization of read material. Developing further understandings of a wide range of the topics which enables them to engage in a two-way communications and discussions.
Weeks 15 assessment.
There will be short in class readings and readings assigned for homework.

Grades are based on participation and course work.

No text is required in this course.

Shinjuku Campus: Wednesdays & Thursdays lunch time and by appointment.
