理工系大学生として最低限必要なレベルの化学的知識を得ることがこの授業のねらいであり、同時に目標である

4th week: Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table 3
　　Periodic Table of the Elements, Properties Related to the Periodic Table
5th week: Bonding 1
　　Type of Bonds, Intermolecular Forces of Attraction, Double and Triple Bonds, Resonance Structures
6th week: Bonding 2
　　Electrostatic Repulsion (VSEPR) and Hybridization, Sigma and Pi Bonds, Properties of Ionic Substances, Properties of Molecular Crystals and Liquids
7th week: Chemical Formulas
8th week: Gases and the Gas Laws 1
　　Introduction -- Gases in the Environment, Some Representative Gases
9th week: Gases and the Gas Laws 2
　　General Characteristics of Gases, Gas Laws and Related Problems
10th week: Chemical Calculations and the Mole Concept
11th week: Liquids, Solids, and Phase Changes 1
　　Liquids, Phase Equilibrium, Boiling Point, Critical Temperature and Pressure, Solids, Phase Diagrams, Water, Polarity and Hydrogen Bonding
12th week: Liquids, Solids, and Phase Changes 2

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

期末レポートによって評価する
レポートの内容や提出方法は時期が来たら授業中に指示するが、基本的にはPCで作成したレポートをPDF形式に変換し、emailに添付して送信、またはCDRに記録して提出することになる
出欠状況は成績評価には無関係です

高校の化学の教科書や参考書
高校の教科書を持っていない人には「新しい高校化学の教科書　左巻健男　講談社ブルーバックス」を推奨する
その他の参考書は授業中に適宜紹介する

＜オフィスアワー＞

授業終了後に適宜質問を受け付ける

＜備考＞

授業には英和辞典と電卓を持参すること
　　・英和辞典はできるだけ紙の辞書が良い
　　・電子辞書は禁止しないが勧めない
　　・電卓は安価な物でよいので関数電卓を用意すること
　　・携帯電話の電卓機能は不可

授業前の予習が必須である
教科書の次回の授業範囲を予め読んでくること

（重要！）初回の授業までに教科書のChapter 1 Introduction to Chemistry (p.3-24)を読んでくること。章末の問題Chapter 1 Review (p.20-24)は、やってこなくてよい。
