1単位 D.トーマス 非常勤講師
- <授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標>
- The aim of this course is to improve the students’ general reading abilities in English. The focus will be on developing basic comprehension skills: identifying topics, supporting ideas and conclusions. In order to achieve this, the structural formations of short readings will be analyzed. Attention will be given to enhancing the students’ scanning techniques to identify key points and to increasing the students’ reading speeds. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.
- <授業計画及び準備学習>
- Short passages from the textbook will be read and discussed in small groups. Students may be asked to make short presentations on topics occurring in the text and will be encouraged to offer their thoughts on the topics being discussed.
- <成績評価方法及び水準>
- Grading will be based on three main elements: 1) participation/attendance/attitude; 2) quizzes/homework tasks/readings; and 3) one end-of-term test

- Please bring a bilingual dictionary to class every day (either electronic or book-style). You will also need a B5 size binder to keep looseleaf notes and handouts in.
Please buy one book from the Oxford Bookworms Graded Reader Series. You can choose any level you like (from level 1 to level 6) but choose a level that you are comfortable with. How to choose a level: open the book and read one or two pages. If there are more than 5 or 6 words on a page that you don’t understand, try a lower level.
