○Reading Skills in English IA[3338]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ general reading abilities in English. The focus will be on developing basic comprehension skills: identifying topics, supporting ideas and conclusions. In order to achieve this, the structural formations of short readings will be analyzed. Attention will be given to enhancing the students’ scanning techniques to identify key points and to increasing the students’ reading speeds. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.

＜授業計画＞

　本授業では、毎回ある程度の分量の英文を読むことを通じて、読解力のアップを目指す。そして、英文の正確な理解だけでなく、「読む」スピードを向上させる訓練も行う。中間試験と期末試験だけでなく、通常の授業内でも適宜小テストなどを実施して、習熟度をチェックしていく。履修生は、ただ単に授業に出席するだけでなく、十分な予習を行って積極的に授業に参加することが望ましい

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

中間試験と期末試験の結果を70%、毎回の授業での課題提出を30%として、最終的な成績を評価する。
