＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

This course will reinforce the techniques taught in Introduction to Academic Writing and culminate in the students producing term papers.

＜授業計画＞

The contents of this course will be a review and enhancement of Introduction to Academic Writing. Though topics may seem to be a repeat, they will be treated more practically and in depth.

Some topics that will be discussed in class are:
1.Model research papers
2.Deciding on a topic
3.Thesis Statement
4.Taking notes
5.Outlining the paper
6.Organizing paragraphs
7.Main ideas and supporting ideas
8.Writing the introduction and conclusion
9.Citations / Quotations / Plagiarism
10.Graphs and Tables
11.Private writing session 1 (Tips to writing formal English)
12.Private writing session 2 (Tips to writing formal English)
13.Private writing session 3 (Editing)
14.Writing an abstract

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

Students will be assessed by the quality of work they do in class and by how well they have improved during the course. The quality of the paper handed in at the end of the term will be considered as the final assessment.

＜学生へのメッセージ＞

Only those students who are academically motivated are welcomed in this course. Students also should be able to share their work and collaborate with other students in English when the instructor asks them to work in groups. Although this course can be a half-year course, the contents will be continuous. It is advised that the students take it for the whole year since what is done in each semester is supplemented by the other.
