○Reading Skills in English IA[3337]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ general reading abilities in English. The focus will be on developing basic comprehension skills: identifying topics, supporting ideas and conclusions. In order to achieve this, the structural formations of short readings will be analyzed. Attention will be given to enhancing the students’ scanning techniques to identify key points and to increasing the students’ reading speeds. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.

＜授業計画＞

第一回目の授業で授業方法を解説するが、英文を正しく読む為のスキルを学び、英語を訳さず英語で理解することを最終目的とする。また、教科書と並行して興味のある本を教員の指導のもとに選び、計画をたて多読を行い読書記録をつけ自分にあった学習方法を見つけ出す。

2. Direct Reading
3,4. Previewing and Making Predictions, Scanning, Making inferences
5,6,7. Building a powerful vocabulary, leaerning to look for the topic
8,9. Understanding paragrapfs, Finding the pattern of organization
10,11. skimming
12. Review
13. Exam

　注意：教科書のPart3と4は毎回授業でウォーミングアップとして学習する。

　　　 進捗状況に応じ多少の変更あり。詳細は第一回目の授業中に配布する。　

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

読書記録　20％、プレゼンテーション15％、テスト60％、積極的授業態度5% など総合的に判断する。　
出席点はありませんが、遅刻・早退３回＝欠席１回となります。また、欠席回数が８回を数えた場合はいかなる場合でも単位を認定できません。授業中における2/3以上の睡眠は欠席とみなします。

受験英語（訳読中心）とは違がった角度から英語を取り組みますので最初は違和感があるかもしれませんが多読を含め高校までの英語の授業とは一味ちがう形式で楽しくアクティビティーを入れながらの内容になりますので英語に対してアレルギーがある学生も最終的には英語が好きになることを期待しています。
