○英文ライティングＢ（English Writing B）[5223]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ abilities to produce written materials utilizing English writing structures. The students will begin by working on paragraph structure: topic sentence, supporting ideas, and concluding sentence, and progress to essay writing: introduction, body, and conclusion. Various writing styles will also be given attention including: descriptive writing, argumentative writing, expository writing, business letters, and proposals. Reading materials will be used to model these writing structures and to build and reinforce vocabulary. The medium of instruction will be English so as to assist in building the students’ oral and aural abilities.

＜授業計画＞

　モデルとなる文章を参考に、英文エッセイの基本構成を繰り返し学習しながら、英語の論理構造に沿ったパラグラフを書く能力の基礎を築く。そのために、毎回自分で英文エッセイを考え、書き、読み直し、訂正する、といった作業をおこなってもらう。そうした中で、自分の意見を英文で構築する術が身につけていく。
　第一回は簡単なガイダンスののち、自己紹介文を作ってもらう。二回目以降は二回で一課を終了する目安で進めていく予定である。ただし、理解度に応じて柔軟に進度を調整していきたい。

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

ドラフトの提出、授業への参加、テストなどを総合的に評価し、60点以上を合格とする。

　 Skills for Better Writing 『構造で書く英文エッセイ』（2004年、南雲堂）

＜参考書＞

必ず辞書を持参すること。それ以外は、授業時に適宜紹介する。

＜学生へのメッセージ＞

この授業をただ英語を勉強するだけだとは思わないで下さい。英文の論理構造を学ぶ中で、論理的な文章を読み書きする「頭」を作り上げるのが目的だと考えて欲しいのです。そういう意識を持って授業に臨めば、企業で働くにしろ研究者になるにしろ、企業家になるにしろ専業主夫/主婦にしろ、　かならず将来の役に立つはずです。頑張って下さい。
