○Basic Reading Skills II[4419]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ abilities to engage textual material that is written in English. The focus will be on developing the students’ aptitudes in contemplating texts so that they will be better prepared to form opinions, arguments and conclusions based on the content presented in the texts. To achieve these goals, attention will be given to nurturing the students’ abilities to infer meaning from texts and to utilize critical thinking techniques in the analysis process. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.

アメリカの様々な分野の人物、フランクリン、エディソン、フォード、ディズニー、キング、プレスリー等の伝記を読む。リーディングの能力を高め、併せてアメリカ社会、文化および歴史に関して幅広い知識を身につけさせる。語彙の増強を図るとともに英語の苦手な学生をも念頭に置き、文法事項についても丁寧に説明する。

次のようにテキスト中の６つの章をとりあげる。

Martin L. King Jr.
Elvis Presley
第１４週 後期テスト

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

授業での発表、発言、出席状況、定期試験を総合的に評価し、６０点以上を合格とする。
