○Basic Reading Skills II[3209]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ abilities to engage textual material that is written in English. The focus will be on developing the students’ aptitudes in contemplating texts so that they will be better prepared to form opinions, arguments and conclusions based on the content presented in the texts. To achieve these goals, attention will be given to nurturing the students’ abilities to infer meaning from texts and to utilize critical thinking techniques in the analysis process. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.

＜授業計画＞

毎回、テキストを一課ずつ進めてゆく。
同時に、最新の英字新聞、雑誌からの記事や、エッセイ、小説などを利用したプリントを配布し、
楽しみながら速読、スキャニングなどの多彩な読解技術を身につけ、さらに語彙力も強化する。

毎週、辞書を利用するので忘れず持参すること。

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

平常の演習、小テスト、課題を５０％、期末試験を５０％として６０点以上を合格点とする。
ただし、６０点に僅かに満たない者については、レポート課題を与え、レポート内容が単位認定相当と認められる場合には、最終成績を６０点とする。
