○Basic Reading Skills II[5408]

＜授業のねらい及び具体的な達成目標＞

The aim of this course is to improve the students’ abilities to engage textual material that is written in English. The focus will be on developing the students’ aptitudes in contemplating texts so that they will be better prepared to form opinions, arguments and conclusions based on the content presented in the texts. To achieve these goals, attention will be given to nurturing the students’ abilities to infer meaning from texts and to utilize critical thinking techniques in the analysis process. Students will be expected to display their skills in the above techniques in English, both orally and in written form.

＜授業計画＞

第１週の授業で後期の具体的授業の方針や classroom activity について更に説明。毎回 Chapter ごとの現代的トピックの英文を読み進める（テキスト指定）。学生に当てながら文構造の確認を促し、訳してもらう。各自の予習では自分なりに文構造を把握しておく。学期の第２週〜第１３週はこのテキストの Chapter ごと内容把握問題をやりながら読解力養成を目指す。またテキスト以外にプリント教材、英字新聞( The Japan Times )からの面白い記事なども読んでいく。また後期第１週では前期期末試験の結果報告・分析も行う。第１３週まで前期と同様な形の授業となる。予習をしっかりやって授業に臨むように学生に期待したい。

＜成績評価方法及び水準＞

通常の授業での発表、予習の度合い、期末試験、出席状況などを総合的に評価・判断する。Classroom activity が重要なので、学期のそれぞれ３分の１以上の欠席者は期末試験資格を失うものとする。
成績の配点の目やすとして、予習の度合い・Classroom activity、課題・レポートなどで合計３０％、定期試験７０％ とする。
